The Z Series is Panasonic’s premium wall-mounted split system. It heats and cools like any good inverter unit, then keeps working when it is switched off: the nanoe X generator inside keeps releasing hydroxyl radicals into the room to break down odours, allergens and airborne bacteria.

It runs on R32 refrigerant, has wifi built in rather than as an add-on, and the smallest models drop to 19 decibels on the quiet setting, which is below a whisper. Adelaide’s climate zone ratings are shown in the table below, not the best-case figures.

Star ratings are for the average climate zone, which includes Adelaide. Noise is sound pressure at 1 m on the quiet and high fan settings in cooling. Typical room sizes assume a 2.4 m ceiling and reasonable insulation.

It keeps cleaning the air when the heating and cooling are off

nanoe X releases hydroxyl radicals wrapped in tiny water particles. They attach to odours, pollen, mould spores and bacteria in the air and on soft surfaces like curtains and sofas, and break them down. It runs on its own with the fan barely turning, so a bedroom can be freshened all day for almost nothing.

Quiet enough for a bedroom

On the quiet fan setting the 2.5 and 3.5 kW units run at 19 decibels. That is quieter than a whisper and quieter than most fridges. Even the largest 8 kW unit sits at 35 on quiet.

Cheaper to run than the last one you had

Eco mode with AI watches how you use the room and trims the compressor to the smallest output that holds your set temperature, which Panasonic rates at up to 20% less energy than normal operation. The inverter compressor ramps smoothly instead of switching on and off.
